Pipe Welder / Industrial Pipe Fabricator | Queensland
Why Apply
If you are a genuine pipe welder who has worked to code in a certified environment, this role was written for you.
The company is one of North Queensland’s largest and most technically advanced fabrication and engineering operations, based in Townsville with 250 tradespeople across five divisions. Their petrochemical fuel piping division handles specialist pressure pipework across industrial clients and they need experienced Pipe Welders who know their codes, can read isometrics, and can prepare welds for NDT without being hand-held through the process.
- Earn 90k to 100k AUD plus penalty rates, the strongest pay ceiling across all four roles in this operation, reflecting the specialist nature of the work
- Free temporary accommodation for the right candidate
- Monday to Friday, home every night, no FIFO, no rosters, no swing shifts, and no mining camps
- Specialist petrochemical, stainless steel, and pressure-rated pipework across one-off industrial projects to AWS, API, ANSI, and ASME codes and standards
- Three-tier pay progression where Level 3 performers earn the top rate and take on leadership responsibilities across the division
- 250-person operation with long-tenure staff, flat management, and a family-oriented culture where people who stay are genuinely looked after
- Townsville lifestyle, affordable living, warm weather year-round, and a city worth settling in for the long term
The Role
You will be working in the petrochemical fuel piping division of a large, technically advanced industrial fabrication operation in Townsville. The work covers pipe spools, fittings, flanges, and supports for industrial clients, all carried out to approved WPS and AWS, API, ANSI, and ASME codes and standards. This is not general fabrication with occasional pipe work. This is specialist certified pressure pipework on one-off industrial projects. If your pipe welding credentials are not real and demonstrable, you will not pass the floor assessment.
Day to day you will be:
- Fitting up, aligning, tacking, and welding pipe spools, fittings, flanges, and supports across industrial projects
- Welding across TIG, MIG, and MMA processes on carbon steel and stainless steel pipework
- Working to approved WPS and AWS, API, ANSI, and ASME codes and standards on every project
- Reading and interpreting pipe isometrics and fabrication drawings independently
- Preparing welds for NDT inspection to a consistent and certified standard
- Working with duplex and specialist stainless steel grades across petrochemical and process piping scopes
- Building toward and taking on leadership responsibilities as you progress through the three-tier pay system
Standard hours are Monday to Friday, workshop-based, and home every night. If you are an experienced pipe welder, industrial pipe fabricator, or process piping specialist from a petrochemical, pressure vessel, or industrial manufacturing background, this is the role to apply for.
What We Need
- Recognised trade qualification in Welding or Boilermaking, non-negotiable
- Demonstrated pipe welding experience across TIG, MIG, and MMA on carbon steel and stainless steel, probe depth of experience across each process on application
- Working knowledge of AWS, API, ANSI, and ASME codes and standards, awareness alone is not sufficient
- End-to-end pipe fabrication capability including fit-up, alignment, tack welding, and final welding
- Ability to read and interpret pipe isometrics and fabrication drawings independently, this is tested at interview
- Experience preparing welds for NDT, signals a quality-focused certified work background
- Stainless steel pipe welding experience, strongly advantageous given the volume of duplex and specialist stainless work in the division
- Genuinely committed to settling in Townsville long term, candidates considering mine work or FIFO in the future are not the right fit
- Family-oriented, settled mindset, Monday to Friday workshop life is the lifestyle this role offers
Why This Role
At 90k to 100k AUD plus penalties, this is the strongest pay ceiling across the operation and it reflects exactly what specialist certified pipe welding is worth. Monday to Friday, home every night, in a city that is affordable and genuinely liveable. For a qualified pipe welder who wants to do serious work without the lifestyle cost of FIFO, this is the move that makes sense.
For Kiwi pipe welders and industrial pipe fabricators who are ready to put their credentials to work in a technically demanding environment and build something long term in Townsville, this is worth the call.
